Diamond Princess Cruise Review by kimfarquhar
- Sail Date: January 2017
- Destination: Asia
- Cabin Type: Balcony
The food was average at best and in 19 days I didn't have ONE yum moment. The Sterling Steakhouse is NOT a separate restaurant but actually just one end of the buffet they close off at night....we cancelled our booking when we arrived to see this.
Now for the reason we will NEVER, EVER sail Princess Cruises again.....THE ENTERTAINMENT! What an outrageous disappointment. Most of the singers were at best karaoke singers with two singers in the show being just OK. The production show Bravo was only 35 minutes long and although the dresses were pretty, this was NOT a production show. It was a mishmash of old standard songs in pretty dresses. The Rock N Roll Show was the same without the pretty dresses and a 1950's car as the feature prop. Celebrity Productions Shows were AMAZING and had story-lines with wonderful singers, people performing on silks, dancers and amazing costumes. NCL's comedians were an ensemble from the famous The Second City in Chicago and were hysterical and did three different shows. The Diamond Princess entertainment was a disgrace and the Cruise Director Neil Roberts was absolutely WOEFUL! He was completely lack lustre and displayed no enthusiasm or energy and was at best D grade. He rarely announced anything and never mustered up any activity enthusiasm. When we queried why on a 19 day cruise the sub standard entertainment was being repeated he said "well you bought two 9 day cruises". We told him we had purchased a 19 day cruise, not two 9 day cruises which he continued to dispute. We pointed out that Princess Cruises was charging us more for giving us less if everything was just repeated on the second part of the cruise....it was like being in the movie Ground Hog Day. They even started repeating the outdoor movies at night....after we complained, along with everyone else, this situation that couldn't possibly be changed, miraculously changed to show some different movies.
The outdoor cinema was terrific and the only saving grace for our 19 day cruise, but if it was raining this was out. As we are not drinkers or gamblers the entertainment on a cruise is very important to us and I couldn't help wondering if it was because they were not catering to Americans from American ports as to why the effort wasn't being made. Americans have higher expectations of entertainment and the ones on board that we spoke to were appalled at the standard, as were we. It was so obvious that it was all a cost cutting exercise and Princess Cruises have decided the entertainment was too expensive and have cut back on quality. On Celebrity there was entertainment around the pool with music and dancing every day which was full of enthusiasm and fun for anyone watching. They also had glass blowing displays which were very popular and loads of other singers, duos and bands that were all of a great standard. Princess Cruises you should HANG YOUR HEAD IN SHAME regarding the quality of your entertainment as you certainly are no cheaper than the other cruises lines and offer no freebies to sweeten the blow, so for this reason you have certainly lost me as a customer and I will make sure I tell everyone I know NEVER to book a cruise with Princess.

BaliMy husband got propositioned by prostitutes the whole time and they couldn't get parking for the bus where they were supposed to so had to park a long way from where any shopping was.View All 109 Bali Cruise Port Reviews

City TourThis was a highlight tour. The temples were beautiful and very interesting. The tuk tuk ride went for about 30 mins and was hysterical fun.....we laughed our heads off the whole time. The tuk tuks were in a convoy and took over the town, very funny. Lunch at the Princess Hotel was fantastic and the best food we had had including the ship. I would have liked 15 more minutes to enjoy the lunch though. A very enjoyable tour.View All 40 City Tour Reviews
Kelang (Kuala Lumpur)The port is 2 hours drive from KL so you can stay onboard or walk around an industrial site. The drive was freeway and we were taken to the Petronas Towers (which were closed on Mondays) but we just went for a walk to the numerous shopping centres and enjoyed the change of scenery. A 4 hour return trip on the bus just to wander the shops was a long trip though because the port was so far away.View All 12,794 Kelang (Kuala Lumpur) Cruise Port Reviews

Island TourWe enjoyed this tour and went to the Butterfly Farm and various temples. The lunch at the hotel was very average and over crowded with heaps of bus groups all being put together. All in all we had a very good over view of Penang and the guide was very informative.View All 9 Island Tour Reviews
Ream National ParkThere were aspects of this tour that were better than the other. The temples were interesting but take your mozzie spray for the walk. The boat ride and walk through the National Park is actually more like walking through a farm to someone's house but it was quite enjoyable. The lunch at the beach was below par and the beach was very rough.View All 6 Ream National Park Reviews
SingaporeWe LOVED Singapore and stayed for 4 days after the cruise. Gardens By the Bay is a credit to Singapore and a must see destination, as is Singapore Zoo (the best zoo in the world in my opinion). Marina Bay Sands was also great with fantastic views over Singapore and a very extensive shopping, Casino and food outlet venues.View All 569 Singapore Cruise Port Reviews
