We were 10 people from NY and CA, all first time on river cruise.

Four of us arrived 3 days earlier, and we took a trip to Prague for two days by ourselves. We reserved the bus online and was relatively easy. The only problem we had was locating the bus stop to Prague at the Nuremberg main train station. The advice is to make sure you find some local people going to the same place while you are waiting for the bus. We actually missed our scheduled bus because we were waiting at the wrong bus stop. Fortunately we were able to catch the next bus a little more than an hour later. The bus fare was around $30 round trip (if I remember correctly) if you book it online ahead of the time. Otherwise the fare will be double if you purchase at the bus station.

The included walking tour in Nuremberg does include the courthouse of Nuremberg trial. Of course you can pay for an optional tour to visit the courthouse. We however took the trip ourselves the first day of the cruise while the ship was in Nuremberg (actually Erlangen, a small town about 20 miles away). Viking provided free shuttle bus service to downtown Nuremberg, and we took the metro to the courthouse. The courthouse is about 10 minute walk from the metro station. I forgot the station name. When I got a metro map from the hotel, it listed the interesting places to visit, and the station to get off for the courthouse was listed.
