Our evening greeting in our room.

This was my second cruise and I want to share my gluten free experiences on the Norwegian Escape. Newly diagnosed with Celiac's Disease, I have to eat Gluten Free (GF). I completed a form about dietary needs before the cruise and submitted it within a certain amount of time, which I noted on my calendar to remember to get it in on time. It was very difficult to get details a about how they handle/ what they serve differently for Gluten Free. I was directed to meet with the Maitre'D in the restaurants I was planning to dine in, to 'pre-order' my meals. My family enjoyed previewing the menu! I mostly dined in Taste, Savor and the Garden Cafe Buffet. Each time I dined, I was asked if I had any food allergies. Better safe, than sorry. Some servers were trained in my issues and each one worked under the supervision of the Maitre'D who attentively came to check on my meals. Food was prepared in a separate area of the kitchen, to keep it safe from cross contamination. The food was very good! Some highlights included yummy salad dressings, mashed potatoes, pizza with vegetables or other specially requested items, tasty sauces, cauliflower mousse, a variety of seafood with tasty herbs and sauces, flourless chocolate cake, cookies, sorbet. I enjoyed shrimp with herbs at LeBistro, but did not like Cuchina, as the Italian restaurant made the soup and seafood too spicy. Thankfully, they re-made them for me. The cheese rolls in Moderno were the best and the salad bar and meat were all Gluten Free!! They will also give you recipies if you ask! The ports of call (St. Thomas, Tortola, Nassau Bahamas) were excellent on this cruise! Our larger balcony room was very comfortable and the room steward gave us ice everyday, made up the beds and sofa bed. He also made the sofabed back into a sofa during the day so we can use it. The staff was very attentive and really made the cruise very comfortable for us. We enjoyed the Cotton Club, comedians, dueling pianos; however, we did not like the Brat Pack. Performers were very talented. I would definately take another Norwegian cruise.

Cabin Review

Family Mini-Suite with Balcony

Cabin M2

Very comfortable room for my husband and I. I think with one or two children, it will still be ok. Bathroom had double sink and was large, with big showe that had multiple sprayheads. Cabin steward was very helpful. He also emptied our mini-bar fridge so that we could use it and weren't accidentally charged for items we weren't going to use.

Port Reviews

Nassau

We walked to the botanical gardens from the pier. It took about 20 minutes and was very enjoyable. This weather in this port is not as hot as St. Thomas.

Miami

I stayed in Miami with friends, so it was a different kind of experience. South Beach is getting very crowded but I still enjoy the art deco buildings. I love to walk around and enjoy the scenary.
