Viking Danube River cruise on the longship Vilhjalm was wonderful in every way. The ship, as are all Viking Longships, is so beautiful, one feels one is in heaven all the time on board and on excursions. The itinerary was spectacular, with a mix of large cities and small medieval towns. The day trip to Cesky Krumlov, the Melk Abbey, and sailing into Budapest in the evening seeing all the lights and architecture were the highlights. Yet, enjoying lunch on the Aquavit terrace with a glass of wine while viewing the beautiful Danube, its villages and its vineyards, is heaven on earth....doesn't get any better than this. The public areas of the ship are simply gorgeous and so pleasant. We enjoyed the nightly entertainment, which is small in scale but always fun and distinctive. We also appreciate the ability to spend good amounts of time in specific ports, and the ability to return to ship on our own on occasion. Viking does need to do a little work on air flight arrangements at departure. Making people leave the boat as early as 3 AM is bad business practice.
Excellently designed cabin is comfortable, functional, and a pleasure to be in. Sound insulation is excellent (we never heard a neighbor on our 2 Viking cruises to date). The design is so pleasing, also very restful.
