We had been on a previous Viking cruise, enjoyed it so wanted to try them for the China trip.

We boarded the Emerald in Chongqing and disembarked in Wuhan, the cruise being part of the Imperial Jewels of China trip. Having been to China several times, cursing the Yangtze River gave a more thorough understanding of the immensity of China as a nation who has come far. Witnessing up close the people who appear from times long ago to the young people of most modern dress is eye opening. It is evident that they all are very proud of being Chinese. From beginning to end, our experience was smooth; in great part, this was due to our escort who ensured our highest expectations aboard the ship, of the land tours and hotel stays. Our stateroom was very nice and having a balcony is a plus for a quiet and relaxing morning coffee. The cultural and historical lectures on board was very enriching and it seemed the entire staff had our comfort and satisfaction their priority. Shopping stops seem to be de rigueur and our experience is that there are always some who say the amount of time spent is too long or too short. The food aboard the ship was amazing in presentation and variety; our hotel buffets were always gourmet delights and the rooms five stars.

This was definitely a trip of a lifetime.
