We flew in from London and stayed that night at an airport hotel before being transferred to the ship. My wife and I chose this cruise be cause it gave us the opportunity to do some whale watching, travel the Panama Canal and get some warm sunshine. Embarkation was pretty quick compared to some we have experienced. Disembarkation was slow due to congestion at the port of Miami. We were 30 minutes late in getting off. Previous comments claimed that the ship was looking tired. We did not think so although the colour scheme was a bit too garish for our taste. All the public areas seemed well cared for. Our cabin (10566) was clean but at first seemed to have a slightly funny smell. This went with time. Our main complaint was that the bathroom was miniscule again compared to others we have experienced. It was impossible to sit on the toilet and close the door due to the position of the toilet. There was no room for a bedside table on one side as the couch was up against the bed. The balcony was adequate . Dining was OK ish with bog standard offerings on the complementary menu. More interesting dishes were charged extra. This is something we have not experienced before. One American guest with a lot of Norwegian cruise experience claimed that this is a trend that has been going on for some time. Even the Italian speciality restaurant for which a charge was made really did not have more than average food on offer. As we had an all inclusive beverage package we were not forced to pay the high prices for drinks. Interestingly this package did not include the mini bar or bottled water in the cabin!! It also had a strange limitation on the value of any individual drink but allowed you to order any amount of the drink in smaller quantities! There was a good range of entertainments on offer during the night with a very energetic song and dance team and some good comedians. We were sad that there were no interesting speakers on offer so cruise days could drag. With one exception all the crew were attentive, helpful and polite. Our cabin steward was there if you wanted him but did not intrude if you did not. The excursions were well managed except on one tour when it was impossible to hear the guide due to a poor sound reproduction system on the bus. The ports had the usual tourist traps that meant that you hade to walk past lots of stalls offering local stuff getting on and off the ship. Would we use Norwegian again? Only if the locations visited were of interest. We much prefer Cunard and Holland America.

OK. Better than some comments suggest.
