We really enjoyed our Viking River Cruise the prior year, so decided to try an Ocean Cruise with them as well. Viking does an amazing job of catering to the passenger's needs. Embarkation and disembarkation are a breeze! The ships are very new, and well maintained. The cabins are very spacious. We especially loved the heated floor and mirrors in the bathroom. Viking offers several dining options, including formal dining, buffet, and two 'specialty' restaurants, that are included in the price. They pride themselves on their educational sessions, and "port talks" so that the guests know what to expect in each port. They ensure you never miss an important announcement via daily news letter, and recording each education session for access in the privacy of your personal cabin at your convenience. Unfortunately, the entertainment was a little lacking on our first ocean cruise, and did not meet the standards of other cruises we have taken. Amenities offered on the ship and Service provided by the staff is top notch. Since ours was the first Cities of Antiquity and the Holy Lands Tour, we enjoyed most of the excursion, with a couple of exceptions.

Cabin Review

Cabin DV5 - Deluxe Veranda 4008

The cabins are very spacious. Loved the heated floor and mirrors in the bathroom.

The cabin staff is excellent Though our cabin was a bit further forward than we usually prefer, we never experienced any problems with moving through the hallways or capacity on the elevators. We have travelled on several different cruise lines, and find the amenities on Viking to be the best.

Athens (Piraeus)

We arrived a couple of days early and explored Athens on our own. Highly recommend if you have never been there.

Very engaging tour guide. We were there off-season, so were able to walk around the city with ease.

Grand Master Palace

Fascinating tour of the Palace of the Grand Masters. If you enjoy history and culture, this is the tour for you.

Loved the architecture and culture of this old town!

Nazareth and Galilee

Great visit to the city of Galilee and also a stop at Yardenit on the River Jordan which is the site of Jesus’s baptism.

Nazareth, Jerusalem and Bethlehem

You really need several days in the old city of Jerusalem to really get the full experience. It was a very fast and only partial tour of the Old Town, doing about half of the Via Delorosa and the Church of the Holy Sepulchre; Garden of Gethsemane and a truncated visit to the Church of the Nativity.

Sea of Galilee

This is my second time to this region, and just love it. Unfortunately, you only get a few hours for the tour, and really not enough time to throughly absorb it all. Visited the Church of The Annunciation, Church of the Multiplication and Mount of the Beatitudes, There are many more cites in this area, but not enough time in a single day.

Massada Walking Tour

Amazing visit to this historical site! Only complaint was that there was not nearly enough time to explore the entire site, since part of the time was spent at the Dead Sea.

The Dead Sea

Visited a very nice resort right on the Dead Sea. Most of the guests were not aware that we would be spending a couple of hours here, and that we could have brought swim suits and actually experienced the Dead Sea. Would have enjoyed spending less time here, and allowing additional time to explore Masada instead.

Heraklion Town

Worst tour we have ever taken. Absolutely nothing of interest to see, and our guide was just terrible!

Highly recommend this tour! Only had time to do the one tour, but this was well worth the time and money.

Private Tour

ROME & PRIVATE VISIT OF VATICAN CITY MUSEUMS. This was a bit expensive, but well worth every dollar!! Took a bus tour around Rome to see highlights. Spent a bit of time during the day at the Vatican plaza, which was during one of their peak periods. Treated to a very nice Italian dinner at a local restaurant within walking distance of the Vatican. Then, escorted in to the Vatican Museums AFTER HOURS conducted by an experienced Vatican guide....which was absolutely amazing. We spent about 20 minutes in the Sistine Chapel with just our small tour group....which was incredible to experience up close and personal. Can't recommend this tour highly enough!
