Cruising aboard Anthem of the Seas was my 6th cruise, second time with Royal Caribbean International, and also my second time cruising alone; out of all of the cruises I have been on this one has by far blown every other out of the water.
My fantastic experience all started with check in; I did everything online ahead of time so all I needed to present at check in was my Set Sail Pass and my passport, literally everything was done prior to me arriving from my picture down to my on board expense account (you would be surprised how many people did not do this and really held up the process). A good tip I can give is that when you walk in to the terminal there are no desks to check in at, find one of the people with an I-pad in a royal blue jacket standing around the room, these are the people that check you in and there is no sign, announcement, nor anyone to greet you and give you these instructions. Also the check in time on your pass doesn't matter apparently, I showed up 3 hours early and it only took 20 minutes after arriving for me to get on board of the ship.
The ship was magnificent, some people love a new car but to me there is nothing like a new ship. The cleanliness was above any other ship I've been on, and the ship was spectacularly maintained. There were enough public spaces on the ship to keep crowds evenly dispersed even on embarkation day, although if you tried to get near any restaurant on embarkation day it was a mob scene, although that is true with every cruise I have ever been on.
The cabin was very well laid out with ample storage space. I loved the larger size of the room and the color pallet was extremely calming and comfortable. The bed was beyond comfortable and made it extra hard to wake up in the morning. The bathroom was smaller than I am accustomed to on a ship but was stunningly stylish, especially with the all glass shower. Also the use of a nightlight inside of the bathroom was a nice touch and added to the sleek design. The only con is having to leave your room key in a slot to keep the electric on inside the room, but once you are used to the practice it becomes second nature.
This was my 5th time in San Juan so there was not much excitement here for me. It is one of my favorite spots to just wander around however.
It is a little awkward to have to take a taxi from the terminal to town, and when there is more than one ship things get a little crazy, it costs $2 to get to town but $5 to get back. The locals were some of the most friendly people I have ever met on any vacation.
Embarkation and disembarkation were a breeze.
Al though a very beautiful island, if you are not on an excursion the only thing in town in the cruise terminal shopping area. I wandered outside of it and got about 4 blocks away and the neighborhood gets really sketchy and you begin to feel a little unsafe so i went straight back to the port shopping area and hung out there.
