Looking for a post-holiday cruise to celebrate our anniversary and dear hubby's birthday and not wanting to have to fly to Florida for departure we decided to cruise out of Baltimore on the Grandeur. We cruised on her to the Bahamas/Key West, Fl in March, 2016 and had an amazing time. This time however there were a lot more sea days and the average age of our shipmates seemed to be well into their 70's. We had our (much younger) heels rolled over on more than one occasion! There weren't a lot of activities (other than gambling, trivia, Bingo, or drinking) offered on cruising days. A Chicago concert (from 2010) was the highlight of one of the sea days, but unfortunately there was no sound! Ugh - hard to enjoy a concert you can't hear! Guest services and other staff members were made aware but nothing changed :( The night time entertainment was outstanding, although the cruise director Bobby and his side kick "Tornado" Tanya were loud and obnoxious. Enjoyed art lectures & auctions. Wish they would've had more lectures or movies offered during the daytime. Captain Ante personable and very approachable. Shore excursions: St.Thomas: cruise to St. John's - wonderful, informative, and stunning sites. Antigua: Lores & legends - walking tour - informative and eye opening to the poverty of the area St. Lucia: cruise to the Petons - short swim in a cove, saw site where Dr. Doolittle (the original movie) was filmed, amazing view of Petons St. Maarten: tall ship experience on the Mercedes -favorite tour. Hubby helped to hoist the sails, saw planes fly into airport, million dollar yachts. Day was cut short due to leaving port early in an attempt to avoid a storm. Food: We chose to eat in the windjammer and Park Cafe - didn't visit MDR. Not a lot of vegetarian choices (besides pasta) in WJ. More choices at Park Cafe Spa: Had acupuncture for sciatica & was pain free for about a week!!! Gym: Not crowded if you were there by 6 a.m., equipment in ok shape, but 20 minute time limit (+ 10 minutes for "cool down") Solarium: Unable to get seat/lounge chairs (people had their seats "reserved" by 6 a.m.) No reserving rule was not enforced. Unbelievable. Shows: Once again, people reserving seats-C'mon if you want to see the show be in the Palladium early to get a seat!!! Don't show up late it is so disrespectful to the performers. We booked another cruise while on board (great savings & on-board credit for next cruise) that will be on a bigger ship out of FL next January. Fingers crossed we won't be bored on the cruising days! We would probably go on the Grandeur again if there weren't so many at sea days before ports.

Very good cruise because of the shore excursions!

Cabin Review

Cabin
Cabin attendant Herri was awesome - we had extra pillows and our ice bucket was always full! Plenty of room to hang clothes in closet & lots of drawer space. Bring a clothespin to hang on the bottom of the shower curtain so it doesn't blow into you when you shower!
