Sail Date: Dec 2016

Although we did not like the look of a block of flats that is Britannia or any of the mega ships, we booked a standby in mid December as it was cheap, with a direct flight from Manchester and offered the chance for winter sun and to visit some islands we had not been to previously. Original booking was for a DC superior grade balcony cabin on A deck. We were then upgraded to a DA grade on C deck. We got a message from P&O that the first night (New Years Eve) was "Dress to impress" which confused everyone as to what it meant, together with a warning that we could be kept waiting for our luggage until the evening.

The Thomas Cook flight was very good although the choice of free films was only 4 - 3 of which were children's/family (unless you paid extra on board for premium film choice) The earphones provided were crap and did not connect properly so trying to listen to the choice of audio tracks was hit and miss. Bring your own !!

Arriving at Barbados we were very surprised to get immediate transport off the plane and direct to the ship. Ship embarkation was very good - although we avoided the long queue because I use a walking stick. Then we experienced the first of many delays in getting a lift from deck 4 to deck 12. A known issue to all passengers!

Cabin Review

Cabin DA

Apparently the highest grade of balcony cabin (grade DA).

A nice large cabin with spacious settee and 2 flat screen tv's. But on Britannia all the balconies are very cramped. This cabin has a small fixed mirror at one end of the dressing table but the special flat pin plug on the hair dryer is at the opposite end - so the cable length only just reaches. The other complaint is the half length bath screen - rather than a curtain. Water inevitably splashes out when using the shower. The water pressure was fairly low.

Special praise for our cabin steward Archie - and all our dinner and wine waiters
