Overview
The Holland America Koningsdam is a sleek new ship. It has an appealing interior design enhanced by attractive flower arrangements and both contemporary and traditional works of art. The ship handled reasonably well in the 20 foot seas and up to 65 knots wind that marred much of our January 8-15 sailing from Ft. Lauderdale to Grand Turk, San Juan, St. Thomas and Half-Moon Cay. Actually, the stop at Grand Turn was canceled due to high seas. Still, the Koningsdam, with its new hull design, did not seem to handle the seas as well as other ships on which we have sailed in the past.
In addition to certain interior design issues, our major disappointment, however, was with service quality, ship programs and activities and other cruise attributes that I believe are the responsibility of the Koningsdam hotel management. Unfortunately, based on our experience aboard the Koningsdam, Holland America is not the same quality cruise line it once was.
