We chose this cruise because we wanted some sunshine, wanted to visit somewhere new, wanted a flight of less than 8 hours and wanted to try a Celebrity ship.
Our flight arrived early morning and we were taken to a hotel for breakfast. We were pleased about this as 4 or 5 hours in the port building after an overnight flight would have been unpleasant. We were able to check in there but there were still long queues for this and for the busses to the port.
We enjoyed the ship very much. Our cabin was tastefully decorated and practical with plenty of storage. The public areas were good with plenty of places to sit and relax and the ship never felt crowded.
We had anytime dining and booked time slots before we left and this worked out very well for us as we were always shown directly to a table. The food was very good but not excellent. The coffee bar was excellent.
Our main criticism of the ship was that we didn't find the shore excursion team were not very helpful. There were no talks about the places we were visiting and they were not able to help us to arrange independent sight seeing. This was in contrast to our previous experiences with Holland America.
Our disappointment in the cruise was with the location. We had really looked forward to seeing Dubai but had not anticipated the congestion. To get anywhere the bus or car had to sit in traffic jams first. Even the Palm was disappointing as the public access bits were not attractive. We enjoyed the 4 wheel drive dunes explorer once we got there BUT if the you get the back two seats in the vehicle you are very cramped. We did rotate seats every hour. The camel ride on the same excursion was a bit of a disappointment as we only went about 50 yards before turning round and coming back.
Oman was much more attractive as apparently the Sultan spends a lot of money to maintain the traditional lifestyle. We enjoyed the dhow trip to the "fjords"
This was a pleasant port for a walk but not much there. Enjoyed the souk.
A more attractive city than Dubai with an attractice promenade. Not nearly as congested
Enjoyed the dune part but the jeep was very uncomfortable in the back two seats and it took us an hour to get out of Dubai. The camel ride was very shortView All 20 Desert Safari Reviews
