My wife & I were looking for a time to relax in comfort. We chose to cruise over the holidays because our children were not going to be with us. In general the Insignia cruise of the eastern Caribbean met our expectations.
The ship is beginning to show its age. The staterooms would be comfortable enough if they were better arranged - sliding doors instead of ones that open into each other, more US-compatible electric outlets, rugs need replacing the sound systems in the lounge/theater and the other venue used for speakers, etc. need updating. Nonetheless, we enjoyed the pool area, the shows, the guest lecturer.
The food is wonderful. In the main dining room the menu is extensive, varied, and invariably delicious. The rack of lamb in the Polo Grill was the tenderest we'd ever had, as were the filet mignons. The Toscano was relatively disappointing - food was quite good, but they apparently no longer offer choice of olive oils for dipping and no longer bring a cart of after-dinner liqueurs. The Barista, offering fancy coffees (at no charge), pastries & finger sandwiches all day long, is a welcome addition. The service in all venues was quite good, tho not quite up to the level we remembered from previous Oceania cruises.
