Emerald Princess was slightly larger than others we have cruised on and left both good and bad impressions. We had done the same cruise 2 years ago on Diamond Princess and although we thought then that Christmas Day dining was a bit flat, we enjoyed it more than this time. Embarkation in Sydney went quite well, us being elite in Princess's reward system, and disembarkation was even faster, so full marks there. Entertainment was not as good as expected and there were only 3 production shows during the cruise, the first not until 4 or 5 days into the cruise. Most of the other entertainment was mediocre, in our opinion. One exception was a young NZ guy named Will Martin who was excellent and had a beautiful singing voice. We, and many other late diners, did not like the show times of 7pm and 9pm. For early 5.30pm diners the 9pm show was too long to wait and for late 8pm diners the late show was impossible as most were still dining at 9pm. The usual is approx. 7pm for early diners and approx. 10pm for the late diners. These unusual times resulted in crowded 7pm shows, often we were unable to get a seat unless we got there ages before time. Meals were hit and miss, some very good, some very ordinary. Dining service was very good. The buffet had a good selection of food except at breakfast which was repetitive. As with most buffets, the food could always be hotter. The alternate theatre lounge, Fusion, was very different in layout to the Vista lounge on smaller Princess ships and had many divided curved areas and did not seem to accommodate nearly as many people as the layout in Vista lounges. Although we enjoyed the cruise, and the ports, many of which were much colder than we remembered, Emerald Princess is not our favourite ship.

Cabin Review

Balcony
Cabin BB B318
Cabin was quite small but adequate with good wardrobe space and good lighting. Shower very small, don't know how some people manage. US power points, no Australian 240v. The balcony overlooks several balcony decks below and is private. This cabin is quiet and in a good position, towards the middle past the front stairway.
