This was our 13th cruise, 6th on Carnival. I usually consider Carnival to be a bit Vegas-glitz and prepare accordingly. But the Miracle was gorgeous. Not the normal Carnival neon. It has a literature décor. The theatre area was Phantom of the Opera, gorgeous in black and silver with white bas relief masks and huge hanging chandaliers. The comedy club was Alice in Wonderland, Gatsby's garden etc.

Some highlights

1) the Dr Seuss breakfast was $10 each and probably designed for kids but we had so much fun with the Green Eggs and Ham theme and pictures with the characters. They went all out on this one, definitely worth doing. Last sea day before arriving back home.

Ocean View

We are yearly cruisers and ALWAYS get a mid ship, lower floor oceanview room. Partially because balcomies are expensive (we'd rather do another cruise) and my husband can get a little sea sick. I also like how close you are to the water.

Port Reviews

Honolulu

Porting is right downtown. We rented a car since we had been here before. Drove to the North Shore. This was in January so larger than normal waves, we parked and watched a surfing competition then ate lunch at Turtle Bay. Pick up a pie at "Ted's". Awesome!

Hilo

Picked up a convertible car and drove up to the Volcano National Park (for you seniors, get a National Park pass it's just about $5 more than admission and gets you into other National Parks on the mainland as well). It wasn't erupting, just smoking but a terrific day in any case. Whales and their babies all over the harbor, delayed our leaving even, but WOW priceless!

Kauai

When I thinik of Hawaii THIS is what I think of. Again we rented a car and drove up to Hanalai (as in Puff the Magic Dragon) . So beautiful this is the island I want to go back to and stay for a couple of weeks, the beaches are awesome. Wanted to say at this point, renting a car is NOT fearsome anymore. Get insurance then either get a car with GPS or bring one from home like we do. Places not to drive(St Thomas, Jamaica, Puerto Rico etc) but the Hawaiian Islands, no problem Rental car companies pick you up at the ship and take you back there. WARNING: Plan to get back to the ship at least a full hour or more BEFORE due time since you won't knoe the local traffic situation.
