This retired couple chose this cruise for its longer length and because it left from NYC, our home town. The itinerary had a nice mix of ports we visited several times before (PR, St. Thomas, St. Maarten and Tortola) plus 4 we had not cruised to before (St. Lucia, Barbados, Martinique and St. Kitts). We selected the "free" drink package and free daily gratuity from the five offered selections. Expedia gave us a $200 on board credit and NCL gave us $175 as part of the booking. Once on board, we put some of those credits toward a five night specialty restaurant package.

We had been on this ship once before but because of the extra sailing days, we really had a chance to explore and enjoy the ship this time. The adult only pool area is nice and there is a wonderful water slide and pool area for children that is completely separated from the adult pool. We noticed many adults using the slides, which was fine, because there were very few children on this cruise and the water slides were otherwise rarely in use.

The down side to the pool area lay out compared to other NCL ships is there is no room for the outdoor BBQ, one of our favorite lunches on other ships. There is also no outdoor food counter by the pool with early morning and all day snacks, another thing we missed. Similarly, there is very little room for dancing when the band or DJ get things going by the pool. But on the up side, it seemed the adults were just a little closer, a little looser, and having a real blast on the sunny and warm afternoons at sea. It really felt like an adult party once the music started.

Cabin Review

Mid-Ship Mini-Suite with Balcony

Cabin MA

We booked mini suite 11790 and really liked the cabin. The balcony is a bit small, but for some reason, we were so busy on this cruise (our 9th), we didn't mind. When we did sit there, it was fine; maybe I am just getting used to small balconies (its our ninth cruise). At first glance, I thought there was little storage space in the cabin, but once we discovered the draws under the couch/extra bed, and the storage built into and next to the counter top inthe room, we realized we actually had more than we needed for our two weeks' worth of stuff. There is also a hassock in which things could be stored.

The bathroom was also surprisingly roomy and we were surprised by the spa-style jets in the shower, considering this was not a "spa" mini suite. There was a double sink, which came in handy at times and a shelf ran the length of the two sinks, allowing plenty of space for personal items. there was also a small storage area under the sink. The bed was comfortable tho we could have used better pillows. The room was well maintained by our Steward. The decor was pleasant and subdued, not the garish colors and swirly patterns seen on many of the older NCL ships.

The cabin seemed fairly large and was very comfortable for two. For three, it would seem crowded to me except if the third is a small child.
