We picked this Christmas cruise since we thought HAL would make it a nice celebration.
Although sold out, the ship never seemed crowded.
The Oosterdam has been remodeled, and we find it overall looks good, though some parts still show her age...
Beautiful island. Listened to very skilled street musicians, who played authentic African drums. Nice beach near the ship, I actually did a decent ocean swim, since the water is calm, and not very salty (must be due to the ample rainfall).
You can walk or take the flying beach chairs back and forth. There's also a nature trail detour on the way.
Didn't book snorkel tour due to rain forecast - it changes underwater visibility significantly.
Sadly, Key West has become another $5-chinese-made-stuff-shop and Diamonds International port. Gone are the funky stores and interesting galleries.
Will avoid in the future :(
Very commercialized; good for buying local artisan tequila; water appears still clear.
Port is not bad, although Port Canaveral is much more organized.
Definitely use navigation to get back on whichever freeway you're taking.
We parked at the port - the extra $ was worth avoiding shuttle hassles.
