3 generations of our family travelled together on the Coral Princess for Christmas, Grandparents (70s), Parents (50s) and kids (20s). We have been travelling on cruises all together for the past 15 years and have been on more than 20 cruises.
We loved the Panama Canal Cruise. We had been before when the kids were much younger so we wanted to go again. The Coral Princess was a very nice ship and the service was outstanding, particularly in the dining room and on the lido deck.
The trip through the Panama Canal was excellent. The ship went into the canal early, we had coffee and pastries delivered to our room and watched from the balcony. We turned on the commentary on our stateroom TV. After going through the first lock, we went down to the promenade deck where the view was even more impressive because you are even with the canal walls. After going through the locks the ship anchored in the lake and off loaded passengers going on excursions. We stayed on board. It was announced that about 60% of the passengers left the ship. About 10:30, the ship went back through the locks and we docked at the Port of Colon before 3pm, which was 2 hours early. We really enjoyed the transit, there are engineers in all 3 generations of the family so it was particularly interesting to them.
Cabin was very nice, bed was excellent. Shower smaller than newer ships.
Nice port, good shopping. Tenders back and forth took a lot of time.
Port was an industrial area without much to see and the shopping was not very good.
Parked at Park and Fly which was very easy with a shuttle to transfer us directly to the ship.
