Our ship embarked from Galveston, so we went a day early to see the sights. Of course, the weather didn't cooperate as a cold front blew through and it was in the 40s. Cold for that part of Texas. The Seawall area is great! Ate at Miller's Crossing, good food! Went to Moody Gardens to the aquarium and to see IceLand. The aquarium is ok - they are renovating, so I'll give them a by. IceLand is an ice sculpture exhibit. The theme this year was the Caribbean. It was FANTASTIC!! I highly recommend this. Be prepared to be VERY cold as they keep the temp at 9 degrees. They do give you a big parka to wear. Make reservations! Royal Caribbean is a great cruise company. The staff/crew are always friendly, helpful, polite and you never have to lift a finger for anything. Cruised with husband, 16yo son and 21yo daughter. Everyone had a good time. Shows: "In the Air" - a Cirque-type show done by RCCL performers was terrific. Don't miss it and get seats early. The ice show is always good. Saw "The Las Vegas Tenors" and they were the best. I would have stayed for another hour. RCCL also put on "Saturday Night Fever" - like a Broadway show. Done very well and dancing/singing at the end was what I was waiting for. Dining: MyTime Dining is good if you don't want too early or too late. We ate at about the same time every night and had the same table and waiters. Matias and Catalino were fantastic. They made each meal personal and by the end knew us by name and our likes/dislikes. Ports: Stopped at Costa Maya - highly recommend the Chacchoben Mayan Ruins. Pablo E. was very informative and passionate and fun. (Chac. Mayan Ruins Exclusive Drive). Then to Cozumel - went snorkeling which was great. Crew was good. Showed us lots of neat fish and coral and made sure everyone was safe and kept together. (3 Reef Snorkel By Boat). Went to Grand Cayman (Dolphin Discovery) - would not recommend this. Although it was great to swim with dolphins, they get their money from selling photos. You are NOT allowed a camera and pics for our family would have been $200. We didn't even have that much with us. Also no prices posted and they charged $24 for 3 fries/2 Cokes! Falmouth, Jamaica has a really nice port. Very picturesque!! Didn't do excursions there, but a friend said the river rafting was great. Again the service aboard RCCL cannot be beat. We have already booked another cruise!

RCCL is the BEST!!

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

  • Chacchoben Mayan Ruins
We did the excursion that says Exclusive Drive. We were on a van with only 11 people as opposed to a huge tour bus with lots more. Pablo E was our guide and he was terrific. So excited about what he does. We were very comfortable for the 50 min drive. The ruins are fantastic! Didn't feel crowded and we got great pictures. My 16yo and 21yo said this was the highlight of the trip.

Our crew was great. Alan was in charge with three other guys. Took us to three great reefs. They were very careful about safety and giving out information. Had lots of bottled water too. Saw lots of fish and coral in different settings. When someone wanted to go back to the boat, they went with them and made sure they got on board. They kept our group together and pointed out neat things under the water. Highly recommend these guys!!

The port here is beautiful - although the shops get a little repetitive. We did like the craft market in the middle and didn't feel too pressured to buy things.

Went to Moody Gardens. Aquarium is ok - just seemed very dark - they are renovating, so hopefully will be better in the future. We really were there for the ICELAND exhibit. It was fantastic!! Didn't know what to expect but very happily surprised. Let guests in in big groups. Make a reservation! They will give you big parkas, but it's still freezing. 9 degrees! The sculptures are amazing - you will not be disappointed.

Giving this three stars, because it's a racket to get money. Went to Dolphin Discovery. Usually on excursions, you have one guide, but I felt like we were passed off to a lot of people. You CANNOT take a camera in - don't even try it. Someone in our group had one and they said these people aren't doing anything till they give up the camera. Wow! I'm glad it wasn't my family. The dolphin swim is a bucket list thing, but to have to pay $200 for pictures. Sorry - not good.
