My family of 19 went on the Christmas Cruise onboard Quantium of the seas. We were excited to try out one of the biggest cruise ships in the world.

We arrived at Shanghai Pudong airport, the first half of our group arriving the night before and stayed in a hotel (which is the suggested way to start a cruise to make sure you don't miss boarding because of flight delays). First TIP is to use regular Taxi, it will cost approximately RMB200 to 270 only, we made the mistake of looking for a big van, to accommodate 9 persons, we still ended up hiring 2 vans which cost RMB600 each, which was too much, plus the driver insisted on a tip. So Take Taxis instead, we could have taken 3 taxis and it would have just cost less than the 1 van.

Arriving at Boashan International Cruise terminal, we were shocked to find so much people, it looked like there were 2 cruises leaving at the same time, but no, it was all for the Quantum, we were not used to seeing so much people boarding. Luckily there were RCL port teams who were english speaking and took care of us. Checkin was still a bit slow, even with our pre booking on the net. In this cruise, ports of call required photo copy of passports (page where you have your details and photo), so after check in we had to queue for photocopying, which took up more time. At least when we finally boarded, we were able to get to our rooms already and then had very late lunch at Windjammer.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Obstructed Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin DO

Cabin was spacious, but we shared our room with 2 kids, so with the sofa bed out, it was a bit cramped walking to the balcony. I suggest you ask Stateroom attendant to close the Sofa Bed in the morning and only opening it up in the evenings, kids will be in kid's club anyway and can nap on the sofa.

We also loved the Smart TV system

Port Reviews

Shanghai

Did not get to go around much, as our flights were a bit tight. But the City looked clean, a bit of traffic coming from the cruise terminal, because of so many container vans coming from the port.

If you want to go around Shanghai, maybe better to go to airport then take Maglev into the City. Might be cheaper.
