Sail Date: Dec 2016

My wife and I occasionally cruise every few years, this being our fourth cruise. We chose Celebrity to experience a level of service above what we had on Carnival 3 years ago. We picked the Summit out of San Juan, Puerto Rico to sail the Eastern Caribbean and visit new and exciting islands beyond the typical ports like Nassau and Cancun. We looked forward to the entertainment, and as social dancers any opportunities for us to hit the floor.

The overall experience was great, friendly staff. The food was delicious and the main dining room (MDR) menu excellent. The ship was very peaceful and relaxing compared to Carnival. This may have been due to different type of passengers (mostly middle aged couples), time of year Dec. vs. April sailing, or just ship atmosphere. I'd sail Celebrity again just for the entertainment and the dancing.

The Summit staff were hard working and provided excellent service like on other ships & lines, but seemed more welcoming and had a culture to make sure you were as taken care of as they could deliver. I enjoyed being greeted in line every dinner in the MDR. It's a nice touch and is among the little things contributing to the overall experience.

Port Reviews

St. Croix

We docked at Frederikstead. The dock conveniently located next to the Frederikstead public beach. The beach had clean, beautiful sand and in the early morning covered with shells and coral. The water was clear, though you had to get past the rocks to be able to get deep enough to swim. Quiet and peaceful with mainly fellow passengers.

Martinique

Martinique is a big let down and tourists need to be advised there is nothing to do in Martinique unless you arrange a tour or get transport to nearby beaches. The only souvenir shopping is a tent market by the dock. The harbor is in an historic (translated - old and rundown) section of the city. The locals only speak French and all shops are priced in Euros. We went back to the ship and enjoyed the empty facilities.

St. Kitts (Port Zante)

The harbor was next to a nice shopping center with souvenirs and duty free alcohol. The liquor selection was better and single bottle prices as good as the ship buy 2 or 4 specials. Another couple went on an independent ATV tour and was offered better pricing than the internet had. I guess the operators were trying to fill out their last slots and making deals. I'd have gone if I knew that.

St. Thomas

The ship docks several miles from the town center. There isn't any worthwhile shopping in town, though it was the last port of call and I already bought souveniers, liquor, etc. Unless you go on an excursion, I'd stay back and relax on the ship.
