We have traveled on Celebrity before and despite some bad experiences gave them another try as the trip looked really good. The ports were great, especially as we did not do any of the ship's excursion tours which we did with others via roll call. The ship itself left a lot to be desired. The service or lack of would be a detriment if you expected more than the bare minimum.
We had a Concierge class cabin. It was not worth the extra money. The afternoon canapés was either a inedible dip or three slices of cheese. Despite promises of something different it never happened. We ended up in the buffet most nights as the food was fresher and tastier. We also had a table for two in a section with a foul odor and there was no alternative available. We were told by staff that the odor emanated from plastic trays that were carrying kosher food for another party and there was nothing that could be done. We had two specialty dining experiences. The Oceanliner had tasty food but was not worth the surcharge. The Tuscan grill the pasta was softer than baby food and the meat were missing such elements as salt, pepper, and garlic. The buffet at breakfast was disorganized. they had a ton of managers but no servers to bring coffee or juice. The only way anyone would pay attention was when a ship's officer was called or walked by to ask if the cruise was pleasant. If one has to complain for basic service than it is not a vacation but a business negotiation.
Embarkation was easy ,getting off was also. Drink package was great as we had premium. What was also annoying was the way you were approached every time you entered a dining area to pay for specialty dining or a spa treatment. Some of these folks were very aggressive and would just interrupt you as you were conversing with someone. Made me NOT want to do it.
Room was old , concierge service was not worth the extra money for a bag and daily old cheese
We booked a private tour with 10 others. Great experience with less people and cheaper than ship.
Great tour of Christian sites
