I have been drawn to the Down Under area since I was a child. I devoured books and movies about the area, and dreamt of this mystical land. When I found this cruise over two years ago while perusing the 'Net one night, I was ecstatic! I planned and researched, so that I would not miss anything and make the most of this trip.
So..fast forward to one week after our trip ended. The cruise was nice..but I think I built up so much expectation, it made it impossible to be perfect, you know? Honestly, my favorite day of all 20 vacation days was our second day in Auckland, zip-lining and wine-ing out on Waiheke Island- which was before we even got on the ship!! The weather was perfect, as it is the start of their Summer season. (I independantly booked this thru Viator. HIGHLY recommended for adventurers!)
The ship itinerary was great. Auckland-Tauranga (o/n)-Akaroa-Wellington-Dunedin-Doubtful/Dusky/Milford Sounds NZ- Hobart, Tasmania-Melbourne-Sydney.
Cabin 1108 is wonderful!! It is midship and has a huge balcony, with a clear view Forward, straight to the fly-bridge. Our steward, Gabriel, was the best we have had, and very attentive. We never met the Concierge, and never heard from her, other than the pre-recorded 'welcome' call. The afternoon canapes were the same.every.single.day. But a nice snack mid-afternoon.
Beautiful port to walk around---recommend having a coffee or ice cream at Salamanca Market area. Great place to buy arts and crafts.
Nice waterfront and beautiful museum...self-guided Te Papa Museum...easily walked to from ship.
Self-booked thru Viator....Ziplining and Winery Tour,,,,included ferry tickets to/from island from downtown Auckland...WONDERFUL day!! My favorite of the entire cruise...and we didn't board until two days later!
