Pacific Princess Cruise Review by bigsuze
- Sail Date: October 2016
- Destination: Eastern Mediterranean
- Cabin Type: Owner's Suite with Balcony
Our dining experiences were all excellent, especially the specialty restaurants. Our waiter was Joseph -- he is the one who made our experiences so special. The maitre'd and staff provided first class service.
The entertainment was the best I've experienced on a ship -- with talent far above the usual cruises ship shows. Activities were plentiful -- I even went to a service club meeting while onboard.
Most of the excursion experiences were also wonderful -- interesting and charming ports that were out of the ordinary. However, there were a few excursions that didn't quite live up to our expectations (having to wait a long time in the rain for the bus to transport us; a rude guide, and a cattle call lunch experience while on an excursion.). For the most part, the excursions were well worth it (especially the museums in Florence).
I was very pleased with the transportation arrangements from the airport to the ship (provided by Princess). Embarking and disembarking procedures were handled well -- being on a smaller ship helped a lot!
I am not a lover of cruises -- mostly because the ships are too large and I am not a fan of crowds. The smaller ship experience is more relaxed and the service level (at least on the Pacific Princess) was unparalleled. The decor on this ship was lovely, the Captain and crew were first class.
Sadly, because of a sudden storm, our cruise ended in Nice 2 days early, There was some damage done to the ship and the cruise had to be terminated early. The Captain and crew of the Pacific Princess took such good care of us that what was an unfortunate accident did not turn out to be a disastrous ending to our cruise -- from hotels to transportation, everything was arranged for us. Beautiful hotels in both Nice and Barcelona. And most incredible of all was the credits we received for our slightly shortened trip -- credit for the current trip and credit towards a future Princess cruise (we've already booked out next trip -- as long as it's on the Pacific Princess, it's sure to be another outstanding experience.

The outside space was incredible -- a wrap around balcony, with deck chairs and a large table and chairs -- and unobstructed views.
The only criticism I had was of a personal nature -- the bathroom had a large Jacuzzi tub/shower combination (very nice) -- but getting in and out of it was a real challenge for those of us who are on the short side.
Steward service was outstanding.

BarcelonaWe were bussed here from Nice due to the damage to the ship and the cancellation of the rest of our trip. It was a very long day (10+ hours) and other than being stuck in traffic, we were too tired to go touring.View All 2,285 Barcelona Cruise Port Reviews

City TourFlorence is fabulous -- from the architecture to the art museums. Our guide was knowledgeable, but not very accommodating -- just walk fast and keep up. Lunch was disappointing -- sit where we tell you (despite the lack of space and an otherwise empty restaurant) and too bad, you can't sit with your party, rude guide and rude restaurant owner.View All 82 City Tour Reviews
The two museums we saw were outstanding -- the Academia and the Uffizi -- just wish there was more time. Both were quite stunning -- and if you've only seen pictures of Michelangelo's David, prepared to be amazed -- the size and the incredible detail of this statue defies description. Our afternoon at the Uffizi (even the ceilings are stunning) was the highlight for me. We had a different guide -- he was not just knowledgeable, but had wonderful stories and information about the paintings, who commissioned it, the artist, and other wonderful details that really made these beautiful paintings and sculptures come alive. The churches and the other buildings are stare-worthy -- just wished for more time...
KotorDid our own walking tour. This is a charming town and I was happy this was one of our stops -- wonderful old world architecture, windy streets and something new to see at every turn. Good shopping, with stores that offered goods made by local artisans.View All 736 Kotor Cruise Port Reviews

City TourThis was another interesting city and a good tour. There was a significant amount of walking -- and at a pace a bit too fast for my liking. ExpensiveView All 72 City Tour Reviews

City TourWe walked around town -- a lovely and charming port -- the park when you enter the harbor was so interesting, with whimsical sculptures (like pink meercats!), but very steep. So we then took a tram tour (local) around to see other parts of town outside of the harbor. It was just "OK"...View All 4 City Tour Reviews
