This was my wife and my fourth cruise.  All four have been out of Galveston.  The first two on the RC Rhapsody, last year on the C Conquest, this year on the Ecstasy.  All of these are old ships.  But that's what you get out of Galveston in return for convenience of travel to and from the port.

Ecstasy needs to be retired, sold off to some third rate cruise company.  We were greeted with the smell of sewage when we got to our room.  I figured a toilet on our floor backed up and the smell would go away soon.  Turns out it smelled in spots all over the ship.  Sewage gasses are my best guess.  We would put wet wash rags over our bathroom drains and that helped a lot for our room.  But in the casino, it was pretty rank in spots.  At the main entrance to our formal dining room, it smelled awful as well.  Not cool when you're heading in to eat your dinner only to have to encounter the odor.  We found a side entrance in via the piano bar and avoided the main dining entrance after day 2.  I asked Maitre 'D about it and to his credit, he acknowledged it.  No other crew members would admit there was a smell.  MD said they were working on it.

So, that was my main complaint.  Minor complaints later.  Let's get to the good stuff.  I will try to be fair.

Cabin Review

Good sized cabins on the M deck.  Bathroom was one of the largest I've had on four cruises now.  Old ship gives you that.  The rest of the decor is extremely dated and tired.  The entire ship is tired.  Skip this ship and go on a newer one.
