Koningsdam Cruise December 4, 2016 Review
This is Holland America’s newest ship and our first experience with this new design. The one thing that was most noticeable when we boarded this ship was the lack of disinfecting stations that were a meticulous mandatory procedure on all other ships! If this lack of health practice is due to complaints from passengers may they come down with the flue and have there $5,000. Dollar vacation trashed. They will soon wish for a return of this miner inconvenience! My wife caught the flue and I will always be convinced that it was due to a lack of extreme disinfecting practices on the Koningsdam. She was confined to her room for five days and the medical bills aboard ship were an expensive $348.00 dollars for a few aspirins and six antibiotics. I later learned that almost everyone I had met on the ship was either ill or their spouse was at some time during this cruise.
There are some very nice things about this ship; the Lido Market is great, most popular menus repeat daily; there is a great variety of stations with different themes, so one does not need to eat the same items repeatedly. The Dutch Café is a great little spot where the coffee is outstanding and the deserts are free; a life saver for the coffee connoisseur. The chairs on the Lido are much too heavy, my petite wife struggled to get in and out of them and if the ship was ever to list to one side, crushed passengers would be the result. I can understand the extreme strength of the chairs since most of these passengers were overweight or obese.
Nice roomy cabin. TV was difficult to navigate.
Get their early as traffic is a mess
Beach is great; soft white sand and shade available if you prefer.
walked around shops, nothing special.
Nothing special, however very clean.
