Jewel of the Seas.

We chose this particular cruise because it was a ship that we had never sailed on.....the itinerary had all of the places that we had visited before, at least once, and wanted to visit again.....we received a great promotional offer for the booking and the drink package we purchased (which was even upgraded for both of us, which we were not aware of until we arrived at check in and were told so by the staff person who got us checked in).

It was the quickest embarkation process that we have ever encountered. This time around, there was an option for completing an online form for billing the credit card being used for on board purchases and use of the SeaPass account cards. That was one less bit of paperwork to have to fill out at check in. Once past the check in desk and heading up to the actual entrance onto the ship, we encountered a long line of people trying to get on board because the hand held scanner and equipment used for one of the two security lines was not working properly when the staff member tried to scan the bar code on the back of the SeaPass cards, so two lines merged into one long line.

The overall appearance of the ship was very good, for the most part. We noticed a large glass pane on deck 5 that had been shattered, but being that it was safety glass, it was all intact. There were strips of duct tape to keep it in place until the removal and replacement could be made. I can't recall any instances of coming upon items such as non-functioning public toilets or broken furniture, etc... There did seem to be a noticeable amount of burned out light bulbs, scattered all over the ship, in various public areas....Schooner bar, Windjammer Grille, Safari Club, Coral Theatre. The Jewel was a very clean ship inside and up on the public decks.

Cabin Review

Deluxe Ocean View Stateroom with Balcony

Cabin E3

Our cabin was one of 12 that were newly added to the Jewel earlier this year. On Deck 11, a portion of the Vitality Spa was replaced with 12 balcony staterooms, numbered from 1140-1162. Our cabin was 1144. We were really curious to see how the new cabins were. We were definitely NOT disappointed!. In the bathroom, the basin faucet and the shower head had more than enough steady water pressure for washing hands or showering. You could clearly see that the cabin was new from the bathroom fixtures and flooring to the carpeting inside the rest of the cabin and the new furniture as well. All of the doors and drawers had the "soft close" latches and hardware. The bed was so very comfortable to sleep in....really comfortable linens and pillows and of course the rocking and swaying motion just made falling asleep that much faster and nicer. The balcony wasn't any larger than we've enjoyed on other ships, but the furniture was newer, sturdier and of better quality for the circular table and the 2 chairs. Also, there was no deck above us, so we had an unrestricted view looking skyward and it really made the balcony feel larger than it was. The air conditioning system really could chill down the room if you weren't careful in setting the thermostat. It was a very quiet running unit and put out a lot of cool air very quickly. Best of all, the 12 cabins were located on the starboard side of Deck 11, just behind the bridge and it was a dead end hallway, so the foot traffic was minimal, just the passengers in those rooms and the one stateroom attendant who took care of all 12 cabins.
