Many staff friends and passenger friends from the Radisson / Regent recent past recommended Viking Ocean, then the Star came to the Caribbean and we jumped at the chance to be on her. We fell in love with the vessel and its entire staff - top to bottom. Viking Ocean (and Viking River) focus on the destinations and the onboard experience. Nothing over the top. Nary a zipline, Karaoke, nor casino to be found. Instead an excellent small-ship experience without crossing the line to gaudy. Excellent food in all restaurants. And the SPA!!! Did I mention THE SPA?????

The entertainment on board uses top notch talent in cabaret settings. No Broadway production numbers, just solid talent. And they support them with the most innovative use of LED screens you will have ever seen. Loved it.

The passengers were a very congenial lot on this cruise. No grumps made themselves obvious. Lots of closely-spaced two-tops in the restaurants that almost always joined themselves in lively conversations.

Cabin Review

Cabin Penthouse Veranda

Well appointed stateroom with comfy king bed, sitting area, and balcony. The Deluxe Verandas are pretty special, but we enjoyed the extra space in the Penthouse Veranda. Superb Nordic design details everywhere. Great lighting and lighting controls. A makeup station that caused many a woman passenger to swoon. Excellent acoustic isolation from neighbors. AC controls that actually work!! And on and on.

The Viking Star is a VERY stable and quiet ship. They say we hit twenty foot seas one night. Slept right through it.
