We chose this cruise because it had some islands that we had never visited and the our agent was offering a special package. This was my first Celebrity cruise on a Millienium Class ship. We sailed Aqua Class - 1) I love BLU and 2) I thought using the Persian Spa would be an added bonus for the trip.
Sailing out of San Juan was nice. Very easy embarkation and our room was ready by 1 when we boarded. We had lunch in the Ocean View and then explored the ship till our friends arrived on board. One note, there was a card in our cabin asking us to dine early (before the life boat drill) in BLU. The life boat drill wasn't until around 7:30 leaving San Juan so I'm sure it was to get everyone fed around the drill. The drill on this ship was in the Rendevous lounge. It was too crowded, too hot and and too long with the announcements being made in 3 languages.
Now the good stuff....the crew on board this ship were tremendous. Attentive, engaged and on top of things. They follow the lead of their captain, Kate, for sure. The staff in BLU was the best service we've ever received on a Celebrity ship, and that's a high standard. Our room steward was attentive and accommodating as well. Kate's daily port updates were funny and informative. I learned things about each island before we got there.
This cabin was tucked away on the stern starboard side. You really want to be port side on this itinerary. The cabin was very quiet (had read some negative reviews about basketball court noise and movie noise but didn't experience this). You could hear the sail away music from your balcony but it was not obtrusive. The balcony does NOT have a roof as you are at the top of the ship so if you are looking for a shaded balcony this is not the cabin for you. I, personally, would sail in this cabin again, though.
San Juan has a lot of things to do, eat and see. I was happy we went a day ahead of schedule so we could do some sight seeing and eating.
Unless you take an excursion, I think this port didn't have a lot to offer. We spent a couple hours walking around in the port but did not find the locals friendly and it didn't seem hugely "clean" so we didn't eat in port as we normally like to do. Take an excursion.
There's not much to do here in St. Thomas except for shopping. The new pier detracts from the get off the boat and explore option. The beaches in St. John are beautiful. In hindsight, we should have done that.
