We had read wonderful reviews about the Freedom. Unfortunately, our experience didn't measure up to them. MTD really wasn't, since we were told we could NOT dine between 6:30 and 7:45. Food in the MDR was warm, lacked flavor, and contained way too much salt. Except for lobster night, the food was awful! Giovanni's was a waste of $58 - main course was so-so and waiter rude and slow. The Windjammer was a pleasant surprise on this ship, offering some unique dishes, although the variety was very limited. Also, signs didn't match the food. We booked the Bacardi Rum Factory tour in San Juan onboard, but the group took off 15 minutes prior to advertised time and signage for bus was facing wrong direction!? Spent the refund being pampered in the spa by Florence. The Pina Colada I bought on Day 1 was slop and cost $12.50 + a hefty gratuity to the waiter who only filled the glass 3/4 of the way. Even though our room steward agreed to remove the items from the mini bar on Embarkation Day and replace them at the end of our cruise, we discovered that we were charged for the items when we checked our credit card account after arriving back home. There were some positives: the staff was very friendly (even though many were not very proficient in communicating in English); Johnny Rockets was good; Ross Bennett's comedy was very enjoyable; Cruise Director Casey Pelter was great; the Casino staff was more friendly than on other RCCL ships (no, we didn't win!); and getting on and off the ship was a breeze. Would we sail on Freedom again? Probably not.
Other than the five-way crack in the bathroom sink, the room was very nice and very spacious. On one of the days, the heat didn't come on, but the problem was taken care of promptly.
One drawback was the day in port when "bunkering" took place starboard ALL DAY LONG, preventing us from sitting on our balcony due to the horrible stench that rose up from below.
Easy on/easy off.
Did a little shopping and enjoyed a couple of Red Stripes.
