We choose the Breakaway because my husband wanted the experience of a mega ship and I wanted the itinerary. Embarkation was terrible, chaotic at best. They need to find a better way to board people instead of a cattle call. Cabin: was very nice, this is our twelveth cruise and I really liked the room, no "drawers", but there was more shelf space then I've ever had in a room and the bathroom was just great, roomy, lots of storage. The bad: the miniscule balcony was unacceptable for me. I love to sit and read on my balcony and this was so tiny, I could not even stretch out my legs and I'm a short person. Charging balcony prices for what is essentially useless for two people is not acceptable. Food was good, they do a great service in the cafe for the amount of people they are serving. Speciality restaurants were as usual very good, but paying extra on top of the extra charge for the Ocean Blue was a fail, it was good but no more outstanding than any of the other specialities. Entertainment: Cirque dream and jungle show was worth every extra penny spent, awesome show. The rest were average and that's it. The Atrium was the worst I have ever experienced. It was so incredibly loud and so busy, there are no words to accurately describe it.. In ONE location (the Atriim), they have the guest services desk, shore excursion desk, a bar, a huge enormous gigantic screen and entertainment (loud very loud singers, who obviously didn't know how to turn their mikes down), the internet cafe, the bake shop, etc. Simply the worst. I tried to talk to a guest service person at one point and had to literally yell across the counter to be heard and she in turn actually had to write her answer on a piece of a paper because it was that loud. Having the Casino in mid-ship in an all open space was a fail. The smoke smell permeated everything in the area. I would walk down around there first thing in the morning (6AM) and all you could smell is smoke. Very offensive. Shore excursions: Excellent, getting off and on ship was easy and I saw no problems at all. The two ship excursions we took were okay but way overpriced. Glad I booked my other four excursions off ship. Service was good, rooms are made up later than we expected they would be but otherwise it was okay. Disembarkation was the absolute best we have ever experienced on any cruise ship. With the Breakaway being larger than all the other ships we've been on we expected it to be the worst and instead it was the best. Easy, organized, 5 stars. All in all it was a good trip. I wouldn't do a mega ship again, but I'm glad I did it once. I wish there was a review between average and very good, because it was a definite good, above average for sure, but a couple of misses, (The Atrium, the smoke smell and the tiny balconies) kept this from getting a very good or even an excellent review.

Balcony Stateroom

Cabin BD

Good room, lots of storage and shelves for clothes, bathroom larger than most other cruise lines, but the balcony was the worst on any ship we've been on. Terrible. Useless for two people.
