We did back-to-back cruises: Singapore to Sydney (with stops in Bali and all around Australia) and then Sydney to New Zealand, ending in Sydney again. Solstice had just come out of dry dock rennovations. These were our 5th and 6th cruises. Will talk about the first leg here: Singapore to Sydney.

SOLSTICE: She is a beautiful ship! The crew keeps her spotless! Beautiful art work and public spaces. Theatre is comfortable and a real theatre. Only minor complaint I have here, is the deck furniture is tired. Our cabin walls looked brand new!

EMBARKATION: Others have complained in reviews. We found it efficient and timely. When we arrived, there were many many people -- at least one other ship checking in at the same time. We quickly found the Celebrity line, filled out required forms and were on the ship, welcomed I might add, with their traditional glass of champagne/orange juice/mimosa. Our luggage arrived in a timely fashion - and we had our table for two, second seating, in the main dining room as requested.

Cabin Review

Concierge Class 1

Cabin C1

We chose to be at the back of the ship this time. LOVED the views -- especially coming and going from Sydney --- sunrises or sunsets, whatever the case.

STORAGE: excellent storage for suitcases under the bed. Cupboards over the bed we used for things we didn't need to get often -- very roomy and deep. Desk unit has drawer and bookshelves and room on top. Closet comes with hangers -- although we always bring some of our own. Closet also has shelves and safe. Bathroom shelves and drawers are more than ample. 2 hooks on cabin walls and also on back of bathroom door.

BED: very comfortable! Turn down service every evening.

BATHROOM: We've always been amazed at the Celebrity bathrooms -- very roomy shower with excellent pressure, glass doors, and ladies, there is a wonderful little steel bar thing at just the right height to rest your foot on to shave your legs! I always miss it when I go home! Sink is ample and again water pressure is good. Towels are good quality. Kleenex provided as well as very nice amenities (shampoo, conditioner, body wash, soap).

DECK: last time we were in a on-the-hump side of ship cabin that therefore had a bigger veranda. But -- there's only the two of us so how much space do you need? Deck furniture as I mentioned is a bit old -- but comfortable and adequate. Views from back of ship are great!

We had one rough sea night -- 10 meter high waves (that's 30 feet!) and very high winds. Luckily not until middle of night. We had glasses fall off the table, closet doors sliding back and forth etc. At first we thought it was because we were at the back of the ship. But many many folks faced the same situation -- that rough of seas -- Staff was on call all night to help folks. We just got to laughing it was almost comical. Kind of the type of story you tell, and those waves get higher and higher in the telling -- sort of like the camping stories that are repeated in family lore -- not the lovely weather, but the night the tent almost blew away! :)

It's cruising -- have to keep your sense of humor and Dramamine on hand! :)
