This was our second time with Azamara and we liked being back. We decided on this sailing because it was with Azamara and this particular itinerary: India and Burma were new to us and we loved visiting both (despite of Indian-made challenges in Chennai). Coming back to Malaysia, Thailand, and Singapore were a treat, too.
This was our first sailing since refurbishments and we liked the (mostly cosmetic) updates, although I think they didn't go far enough. The public areas were refreshed and lightened up, but the layout and the atmosphere were still pretty much the same and lacked the contemporary vibe (see cabin review below).
The dining on Azamara is always fun, varied and even gourmet, especially at The Chef's Table, Aqualina, and Prime C. The additions of tapas and caviar bar are a plus as well and I was pleased to see the expanded selection of wines.
Cabin Review
Club Veranda Stateroom
We stayed in a veranda stateroom (7030) and liked the new headboard, linens and soft furnishings, but the rest felt 'same old'. If Azamara is to stay competitive, they need to go further and upgrade the cabinetry as well, but most of all, perhaps sacrifice a few staterooms in order to provide better bathrooms that allow you to turn around whilst you shower and to include tubs and better finishes. For the price of Azamara cruise, other companies in the similar category offer newer and larger spaces, which I think is a must for a cruise of this length.
