Cabin: Large Ocean-View Stateroom

This was my third Holland America cruise, and the Veendam is a huge dissapointment. The ship has numerous infrastructure issues. The climate control system is a serious problem Our cabin was very hot at the beginnin of the cruise. It took 4 days to get someone to look at the air conditioning and the best that could be done was to increase the air flow. The thermostate dial does not work. On the final leg of the cruise the air continued at the same rate. We went from a cabin temperature of 80F to 60F. Almost every guest we spoke with was haveing the same issues.

Another serious issue was the floors. There are large gaps between the carpet and the actual floor, which is a serious issue with so many seniors on board.

At least 4 of the public men's rooms had urinals marked "out of order."

Port Reviews

Puerto Quetzal (Antigua)

Transportation worked well. But not great value for the money

Fort Lauderdale (Port Everglades)

Departure was very smooth - except for port traffic.
