Serenade of the Seas Cruise Review by nor72
- Sail Date: November 2016
- Destination: Southern Caribbean
We like to cruise at this time of year for the beautiful weather and temperature so different from Northern Europe. The first difference we noticed was that on Celebrity last year a good percentage of the passengers were Europeans or Scandinavians whereas on RCCL the majority of the passengers seemed to be from the USA and Canada.
Boarding in Fort Lauderdale was swift and easy but the departure was chaotic and long. Having booked a preflight tour through RCCL we left the theatre at 08.00 hoping to start our sightseeing tour of Miami at 8.30 but there were only 2 customs officials on duty so we were not through and on the bus before 10.00! This tour is a good offer for those with late international flights and certainly worth the price. We arrived at Miami airport at 13.00 which was ideal.
Our balcony cabin was fine. The layout is different from Celebrity with the cabin door, bathroom door and wardrobe door all opening in the same space which can be annoying. I react to airconditioning getting a cough and dry throat and on RCCL it was impossible for the maintenance team to close off the AC system. Our cabin attendant, did tape up the vent which helped. The ship tended to be very chilly so take a shawl.
There is much less selection in the caferteria on RCCL but we enjoyed breakfast in the restaurant especially with the fruit and cereal buffet section.
RCCL had a good sevice with towels for the beach not Celebrity and the internet offfer for Diamond members is much better on RCCL than Celebrity.Entertainment in the teatre was very similar but there was more going on around the ship eg quiz, team games for families than Celebrity. The Central area is much larger and a real focal point on the ship. Will we travel RCCL again, maybe but not a larger ship.
