Sail Date: Oct 2016

We had traveled on the Oceana two years ago but the experience has greatly deteriorated. Check in took 3 hours we arrived were given a number and waited for it to be called. I don’t know how they manage with the larger ships, perhaps they always leave late. We eventually boarded at around 4.00 pm. The ship was a little like a care home and we were told the first night that there would not be a full entertainment programme as this was a training cruise. This information should have been given prior to booking. You could not get a seat for the entertainment unless you got there about 2 hours before it started and the old people thought it was Karaoke and sang out of tune with the wrong words to the songs spoiling it for everyone else. We did a tour to Seville advertised as a walking tour and passengers complained they had not expected to walk far we only walked about 1.5 km. We spoke to the entertainment manager who told us P and O is for 75s and over and we were too young to enjoy the cruise only being in our early sixties. The ship is dated with no pool undercover and is not suitable for cruises from the UK other than mid summer. The walk round deck was closed evry sea day making exercise difficult. I think someone told them the british like warm beer because the cans were not chilled at all. I certainly wont go with P and O again I think it must stand for Past it and Old which refers to its target age and the ship.

Port Reviews

Madeira (Funchal)

We did the toboggan ourselves walking to the cable car about 30 minutes and then got a taxi back in to the town this was less than half the price of the tour and no waiting. We spoke to someone who did the ship tour and they had an hours wait for the tobaggan.

La Palma

We wanted to visit the old town signage is limited eventually found that you need the road to get the bus NOT the bus station. Near the supermarket is a bar just before you go back to the ship. Avoid this it cost us nearly 12 euro for a pint.
