I wrote an earlier review of a cruise on the Star one month previous to this one. I had mixed feelings on that first coastal cruise, but this Mexico cruise was much better. There were still some concerns
I suppose it could have been a better frame of mind due to the weather being better, but I felt some of the changes made were for the better. While the captain was fine, he was nothing to compare to the coastal cruise captain, however, the cruise director really seemed to make a difference as the staff seemed to respond well to him and the programmes were much better. The CD was Andrew Kadillac and he had a great manner and was visible around the ship willing to talk to passengers. Vines was again the place to be for us pre-dinner and there was a change in time and a location added for happy hour so we visited Skywalkers less frequently. This was a huge benefit over the previous cruise as there was always a place to sit. Also of benefit was the reduction in time given for Art auctions and such, opening more seating space during the day.
The buffet was far less crowded as many chose to eat outside and we seemed to have lesser waits for the anytime dining. Food in MDR was okay and one surprise was on the last evening I enjoyed a steak ... particularly good since the night before I had had a horrible on in the Crown Grill. To be fair, my wife enjoyed her meal in the CG, my rib-eye was unlike any I have cooked myself and was packed with gristle.
A very nice cabin and we would choose this or one nearby again. We are used to the smaller bathrooms. We book this class for the larger balcony which we enjoyed very much.
Went to The Office for lunch. It was a good but manageable walk from the dock and the lunch was great.
The port was used for embarkation and disembarkation.
We had a walk about here.
Did not realize how far this port was from seeing anything. We should have booked an excursion or rented a vehicle.
