A lot of people may jump down my throat with this review and may assume I am a high-maintenance traveller born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I'll preface this review by stating three things:
1. I have cruised P&O (Jewel) before and had the time of my life; staff, cabin and food were excellent and I thought the cruises such grat value for money.
2. I'm a well-travelled person, having visited over 40 countries, have spent years in numerous forms of transport and accommodation (mainly budget, backpacker and lower-end), and have worked in the travel and tourism industry.
We had no cool air conditioning in our cabin for the whole seven nights. With four adults in the cabin, this was even more unpleasant than you can imagine and you would be absolutely correct in assuming we did not sleep well the entire cruise. Our neighbours also had no air con and had to shower their screaming child at 1am under cold water to try to calm him down. We met many other passengers on the ship with similar issues. We were, however, fortunate to have a functioning toilet unlike many other people on the ship without such luxury. One couple we met had theirs overflow out into their cabin.
We did raise this issue with Reception from day 1; however they took 13 hours to action it after we asked several times. In the end, no engineer could fix it and we were given two desk fans to help us sleep. The ship was full, then when a room became available late on the fourth night, we were told two of us could move however their keycard coding system failed and noone was able to access the new room. The staff took four nights to reach the resolution that there was no resolution, to allow us to see the manager, and finally agreed it was not acceptable but they could not resolve it.
