My wife and I had planned for a cruise holiday about three months ago. Eventually the choice of the cruise ship was made based on the ports covered, size of the ship and the favorable member reviews in Cruise Critic. We were met at Barcelona Airport by Celebrity staff at noon and in no time at all we embarked the Summit in time for lunch in the Waterfall Cafe on Deck 10.  The whole process of embarkation was systematically carried out without hitch. The stateroom was in immaculate condition, adequate in size with a nice balcony.  The bathroom was very clean.  Two cracked floor tiles and the shower curtain did not bother us at all; but the button to flush to toilet was badly positioned behind the toilet bowl cover.  An outstanding feature was the exhaust which was very effective - a feature often overlooked even in 5-star hotels.Although one could have sit-down breakfasts and lunches in the Metropolitan Restaurant, we chose to have ours in the Waterfall Cafe.  The food was plentiful and was generally good. Thai curry beef, sushi and sashimi were all authentic; but the stir-fried noodles could be improved by adding Asian vegetables instead of capsicum and celery.  The barbecued chicken from the Poolside Grill was very good.  Hot and cold drinks were available at any time.  Many types of fruits and tea were offered. The coffee was poor - not strong enough.  Even the latte in Cova Cafe was not up to standard.Dinner in Metropolitan Restaurant was a delight. We had a table to ourselves (Table 513).  Waiter Sen was very good in his recommendations.  Equally cheerful was Asst. Waiter Sebastian who was very attentive to our needs.  Sommelier Doriana was a gem - hightly motivated and helpful in wine selection.  The food was great with ample choice of fish, meat, vegetables, soups and desserts. The dinner at Normandie Restaurant was reasonably good.  You could tell that the food cost more that $30 as it included lobster tail, lobster bisque, escargot and foie gras.  However, the thermidor lobster tail I had was tough - perhaps too big or over-cooked.The Celebrity Showtime was spectacular with good resident singers and dancers in attractive costumes.  Guest artist Tommy Bond gave an outstanding performance. One of the reasons for choosing Summit was the itinerary.  The ports visited were Barcelona, Villefranche (Nice, Monte Carlo, Cannes), Livorno (Pisa, Florence), Civitavecchia (Rome), Naples (Capri, Pompeii, Sorrento), Santorini, Piraeus (Athens), Dubrovnik and Venice.  We joined five shore excursions offered by Celebrity and went on our own in Rome, Dubrovnik and Venice.  All the shore excursions were well organized and covered the major tourist sights. In summary, good crew, good food, great service and a well planned itinerary made our holiday on the Summit a memorable one.
