This was the maiden voyage for the Fantasy out of Mobile, AL, first time since 2011. They have a lot to learn about organization at the terminal, getting people checked in. I'm going again in January 2017 on the same trip, unfortunately, so I'll see how or if they've improved. My fingers are crossed. I did try to change to a ship going out of New Orleans at the same time, but I would have had to pay $429 in penalties.

1) If you're not a smoker, prepare to be one on this ship. They don't enforce the smoking areas. People smoke on all sides of the ship outside, and even in the hallways. I could smell smoke in my room sometimes, so somebody close by must have been smoking. Trivia is held in a lounge area right outside the casino and they even have a section at the bar there for smokers, but plenty of smokers walked around with their cigarettes and nobody told them otherwise. That whole back side of the ship wreaks of cigarette smoke. There was even a guy down at the pool smoking a cigar.

2) They have Coney Island hard root beer offered on all the bar menus, but nobody has it. One bartender told me that they don't have it because the expiration date is always so close, and they can't sell enough of it, and end up throwing it away. What? Not sure where that story came from, because they carry it on the Triumph and the Dream.

Cabin Review

Porthole

Cabin PT

Cabin was nice and had plenty of room, good beds and pillows. We had 2 portholes that were kind of like in a bay window. You couldn't really go up and look out the window. Being that for up, you heard a lot of ship work going on, ropes being pulled out and whatever else happens up there in the front of the ship. On the other hand, it's the first room there, so there were no people running by the door or talking loudly at 2AM. Give and take.

Bathroom floor was kind of funky and squeaked a lot. It was basically a big shower floor with drains in it, fiberglass, I guess. Not enough counter space or shelving in the bathrooms. Bigger shower than some. Good closet space. Nice big mirror with daylight lighting. Only one plugin, which is the norm.

They do NOT HAVE HAIR DRYERS in every room. They have SOME hair dryers, and if you request one and they have one, you can use it for the trip. When they run out, that's it.

Port Reviews

Mobile

Maiden voyage (sine 2011) - Long lines. Supposed to have been staggered check-in, but it looked to me like everybody was there at the same time. When I go next time, I'm not going to check in till about 2 or 2:30. When I asked the employees questions, the answer was frequently "I don't know" or "I guess so." Just needs some time to work out the kinks, I think.

Progreso

Never actually got to the town. Next time, I will ignore the shops right there on the pier and go straight to the bus for town. I don't think having those shops right there is doing any favors for the townspeople.

Cozumel

It's nice, and if it's the first cruise or second, I recommend going into the town. Do some research ahead of time or find out where the ship employees go when they have a day off.
