We took the Konigsdam for transportation home after spending several weeks in Europe. We booked it because it was at the right time and because we wanted to try the new HAL ship. We liked the ship itself, but there were changes that could be made. The lack of a library was a chief complaint, but it is said that will be fixed. We were glad HAL kept the promenade that went all the way around the ship.
We liked the way they had the music venues organized with staggered performance times. The talent was pretty good. Main stage performers were pretty good, and we liked the quasi theatre in the round which provided different types of staging. The best show was when the string quartet and the house band played along with the BBC World film. The two speakers that were on board were good, but at least one more was needed in MHO. We liked the films shown on the Lido deck, especially the nature document.
The daily schedule was quite thin - a lot of promotional activities for the spa, shops and art. That schedule really needs to be beefed up - especially for TAs. I think is my biggest complaint.
The cabin was pretty similar to other HAL ships except noticeably smaller. The space between the end of the bed and the wall was tight. There is a triangular shelf where they put the ice bucket, but they put a round tray under the ice bucket. I kept hitting the tray, so I just removed it. I guess round trays are cheaper than triangular ones.
The bathroom was nice, and the shower was roomy. The shampoo, conditioner and body wash are in dispensers on the wall. They fell off one day and had to be glued back on.
