Having sailed with celebrity cruises 3 times before and had a wonderful time we choose this cruise for its destinations feeling full sure the ship would be great. Destinations were really great however the ship now seems to have been down graded to 3 star instead of the 5 star luxury we have had previously. The Ship itself is well maintained and appointed. We had no issues with the ship itself. Cabin : 1084 Concierge Class - very quiet room, but the way it was laid out seemed smaller than previous cruises. Overall we had plenty of room, we just had to utilize the offered spaces differently. We liked the upgrade to the balcony doors so that on windy days there wasn't the persistent whistling sound on previous cruises. The afternoon canapes are laughable, the flavor is bad, they are poorly presented and just an insult to be honest. Additionally, do not book Concierge Class with the assumption that you will have a concierge available to assist in any way - that is not the case. You are also supposed to receive priority loading/unloading from ship - that is also not the case. We do like the pillow options and take advantage of those each time. Dining : The quality of the food has gone downhill - and the push to specialty restaurants is gaining strength. Service in the main restaurant was good, we had select dining times and did not have any issues. The food though was simply not up to par at lunch and dinner. We tried the majority of the specialty restaurants: Murano is wonderful, but the upcharge has grown steadily with each cruise and on our next trip it is $55. Tuscan is good, but it's cover charge is now $50 and for an additional $5 I'd go with Murano. Qsine was good, the concept is interesting but I don't know that it was worth $30 cover charge. Lawn Club was good as well, nothing special to merit the $40 or $45 cover charge - we did love the salad bar. Sushi on 5 was a la carte - we ran up $25 here for udon soup and pot stickers. Again, good but nothing special. We did not get to the Porch $30 cover charge for seafood. We do not utilize the buffet much but what we did sample was tasteless - very well presented just not good. Our take away is Celebrity is pushing you to pay a premium for good food vs. providing it in their regular or buffet restaurants. We were also disappointed that Michael's is no longer an option unless you are in a suite. They have also introduced a premium wine package, that needs to be purchased on top of the premium package. Entertainment/Activities : The comedian was excellent, the shows with the Reflection cast were not as good. Rather like the food, ok but nothing to write home about. We were disappointed in the lack of options during the day on sea days - they seem geared to you spending money (shopping, excursion review, gambling, etc.) vs. movies, games, education on ports, etc. We did really enjoy the game room on 9 with the electronic tables. Service : Service was simply not what you expect from Celebrity. The restaurants, stateroom and security teams were fine and what is expected. The lounges were understaffed, and we did not receive table side service in any of the lounges with the exception of the sunset lounge. The bartenders could not produce quality cocktails, they were not familiar with the liquor names, like Makers Mark... We switched to wine and called it a day. My husband likes craft beers and they were simply not available. We would return from the excursions and the bars were not open where you could get water. The guest relations team could not answer basic questions - like what time does the bus leave that I arranged through Celebrity. Ports / Excursions : the ports were fine and what is expected, we took one excursion and it was ran well and we had a good time. The rest of the ports we went with DIY and had no issues. Embarkation : we did not have any issues, but we missed the chaos by about 10 minutes. Our friends we were traveling with stood in line 3 hours. We did not receive our luggage until after 10PM, and the room was not ready when we arrived. We did not get to the ship until about 3pm. Disembarkation : went smoothly and we did not encounter problems We have another trip planned in December on the Equinox - if we have a similar experience we will start looking at other cruise lines.
