First sail on the Star Princess. Captain was the best!! He was all over the ship meeting and greeting and making sure everyone was having a good time.

Planned cruise over a year in advance and saved a lot of $$. Our Inside cabin was upgraded to Balcony for 1/3 the original cost :) Cabin was mid ship on Baja deck, starboard side. Sailing West the Sunshine was on Port side, but sailing home we had the sun for 5 days. It was cooler leaving LA but warmed up as we got closer to Hawaii. Weather overall was 70's with evenings falling into 60's. Sunbathing was fine, but some days too cold for swimming. Pools rarely crowded and there was plenty of opportunity for hot tubs if desired. Chose to use Princess Air with transfers so as to eliminate missing the ship --- probably won't do this again. Delta flight was fine, but the reception staff at the LA airport collecting us for the bus ride to San Pedro seemed confused at best! We waited and waited and then were taken to the wrong pick-up point. Eventually, we did make it to the ship, but lost some good time on the ship this first day.

Embarkation went swiftly once arriving at the port. Bags delivered and found cabin clean and prepared for our arrival. Balcony cabin a must for 15 day cruise if to just find an escape away from the crowds and noise while enjoying fresh air and sunshine. Cabin steward Alex was thorough, timely and kept our towels fresh, bathroom clean, refrigerator ice stocked while remaining happy and accommodating. He seemed to genuinely enjoy his job! Food in Buffet was as expected, nothing to rave about, but also nothing to really complain about either. During normal meal hours it was difficult to find a table as people tended to squat along the windows well beyond their eating times. Also, the food lines were sometimes slow while trying to maneuver around the above 60+ average age of the crowd. Definitely an older demographic on this cruise, but no surprise given the date of sailing.

Cabin Review

Balcony

Cabin BA

Wonderful experience overall! The toilet jammed one morning and repair was there in 15 minutes after reporting it, and fixed it! Some awful bad smell down the hall kept me staying away from that direction toward other parts of the ship. Balcony small but satisfying for view and morning tea. Neighbors could get loud at times but never obnoxious. Never smelled smoke. Noise was kept to a minimum and we really never heard anything so long as the balcony door was closed. Very quiet ship after 10 pm, probably because the demographic is seniors.

Port Reviews

Honolulu

USS Arizona, Pacific Aviation Museum and Punch bowl cemetery a must see! Rent a car and have the flexibility to see so much more. Be careful not to miss your departure time since renting a car can take more time than you might think.

Ensenada

Unavoidable port call. Save your vacation and sanity and stay onboard, unless of course you enjoy being harassed and mocked at every turn by calls for alcohol at 10 in the morning and / or walking the "flea" market streets for velvet paintings of Elvis! Feel very sad for the locals who are ravished by poverty and a corrupt government. If you do choose to walk the gauntlet... take some candy and small bills to give to the children, they will melt your heart!
