MSC Fantasia Cruise Review by WB7850

  • Cabin Type: Balcony Stateroom

Just returned from a Mediterranean cruise with MSC. The embarkation process in Naples was an absolute shambles with no one really knowing or caring what goes on. The staff when approached just shrugged their shoulders and hoped you go away. Their idea of a waiting lounge before boarding is a farce. You arrive in a sterile area with hard upright (café style) chairs which is not conducive to a relaxing start to the cruise.

On board, the ship (and presumably the company) cater predominantly for families and their children. The ship was overrun with undisciplined children, pushchairs and parents who seem to think everything was for their benefit. If like us you want to go as a twosome then my advice is don't. You will not enjoy the constant noise and the daily fight to reach the buffet bars. The one with the biggest elbows gets to the front. Pushchairs became a daily trip hazard. Complaints to the on board staff were met with the usual shrug of the shoulders and since returning home I have experienced the same negative attitude with MSC Customer services.

In a nutshell avoid at all costs if you looking for a relaxing and enjoyable cruise.

Cabin Review

Balcony Stateroom
Cabin B2 13047

The fact that we had booked a balcony cabin was a tremendous piece of luck. it meant we could get away from the noisy children and their families and sit out on our balcony. My advice is to select a balcony cabin if you want peace and quiet.

Port & Shore Excursion Reviews

La Spezia (Cinque Terre)

Great fun cycling through disused railway tunnels. Every gap in the tunnel produced wonderful views and the 2 towns that we cycled to were fabulous. The cycle tour ended with wine and nibbles before boarding the train back to La Spezia.

Don't forget to have the daily surcharge (tips) removed from your bill if like us you are unhappy with the service received. Speak to the reception staff who will obviously want to know why and will try to persuade you to change your mind. But stand your ground and don't 'tip' for poor service.
