We have been back from our cruise just over a month. We spent 11 days (9/19-9/30) on the Norwegian Sun, sailing Alaska and then Pacific Coastal. I have been thinking about what and how I want to tell you about our experience, I am going to break it into categories (Service, Food, Excursions, Stateroom/Cabin, Other, Final Thoughts). I have previously sailed on Carnival and Princess, so this was our first NCL adventure.

Service –

The service on NCL Sun was Outstanding. The crew was dedicated to making our cruise the best ever. We asked for the same server at dinner each night, just as a matter of preference. Catherine and her assistant were fantastic. After the first night, they knew what we wanted. I have a shellfish allergy and she was checking everything to make sure that even the preparation was not going to cause a reaction. The hostess greeted up by name every day, including at breakfast and lunch. The Cruise director Philly Joel, and his staff were amazing. Fun, energetic, funny. He can SANG…was hoping he would break out in a Billy Joel song, but that might have been too cliché….The SHOW production team..I admit I got a little giddy when the one guy said that he was from the same small town in MN that my mom is from, and my uncle still lives….I mean, it is not a Minneapolis/St. Paul sized town or suburb…it is 3000 people small. One thing that we noticed that we wished would have been different. There always seemed to be cleaning carts in the hallways. I have noticed that on other lines, it just didn’t seem like there were as many as there were on the Sun. We are ones that we are out of the cabin in the mornings by 7:30 or 8am. Out usually until at least 9. Out for lunch, for an hour or so, then back until dinner, and out again for another hour or 2. Before being back in the cabin for the night by 8:30 (yes, we know we go to bed early…) We went several times without our room being made up. My previous experiences were that my invisible room steward seemed to know as soon as we left the cabin for seemingly 30 minutes, it was being straightened. That definitely didn’t happen. I know, and understand that the room steward had many rooms to tackle, but that is true of the other cruises I have been on as well.
