Found this cruise online and the itinerary was the main attraction. To be honest I hadn't heard of CMV before, having traveled with P&O, Royal Car, Princess, NCL and Ocean Village. Without any doubt this cruise was up there with the best of them. Our embarkation time was 11.00am. We arrived at 10.50 were quickly through the paperwork, checked our cabin with luggage already there and having our customary first drink at 11.40. Magellan is a bit older than others we have been on but has loads of character. It is very clean, cabins are bigger than normal and as most reviewers have said the showers are brilliant. The drinks package at £17 per day is great value and we certainly got our moneys worth without going mad, I think on Princess it could have been close to double the price, The staff on board were very helpful and friendly, reception was the only place we encountered a grumpy face. We were on second sitting in the Kengsington with food selection and quality very good. We were on a table of eight and had great craic with a brilliant mix of people. To be honest we never had much trouble finding a seat in the bistro, maybe a few minutes wait and having to share but it was part of the fun getting to know other people. Other reviews had mentioned the lack of seating on sea days but again we always found somewhere to relax. The entertainment was very enjoyable with the dancers working very hard. The four main singers very good as were the musicians. The comedian was good the first night average the second night. The two older ladies were not really my cup of tea but other passengers really seemed to enjoy them. It was also nice to go to the night club for a night cap and not feel to old although the DJ could have made more of an effort to provide music to suit the crowd. The selection of ports was spot on starting with Amsterdam. The ship docked about ten minutes walk from Central Station. We had been before but really enjoyed a river cruise at only €14 each purchased at the terminal. Copenhagen: We got the local 26 bus close to the terminal into the city centre. We had pre-booked a free walking tour with SANDEMANS which I would highly recommend. It was a lovely sunny day which helped in a lovely city. The tour finishes at the Royal Palace which was only fifteen minutes walk back to the ship. Warnemunde: What a lovely town with great selection of coffee shops. From the amount of deck chairs and hotels on the beach front it is obviously a very popular summer holiday destination. Again it was an easy walk to the town past the train station if you wanted to go to Berlin. Tallinn: Another lovely stop although it was a little cold on the day. We walked into the centre which was really quaint and had a two for one Irish Coffee offer to warm us up. We walked up to the vantage point with help from the tourist information office where there was also free Wi-Fi. St.Petersburg: Had an overnight here with an organised trip each day due to the visa issue. Lovely city with a lot of iconic sites, the guide on the bus on day two offered to do an impromptu walking tour which was excellent giving a great insight into Russia. Helsinki: Another local bus and tram with an all day ticket only €8 so we sailed around taking in the sights and doing our own hop on and off. Very clean and friendly city with great local markets. Aarhus: We couldn't get into our scheduled port and diverted to here. It was a great replacement again the centre was an easy walk from the ship. It is a great shopping town and the locals were very friendly and helpful. Now for a little moan, you can't use your on board charge card in the casino. My wife and myself both enjoy a game of Blackjack but the only thing they accept is sterling. Not thinking we would need any we had to change Euro at a poor rate to allow us to play. There was no prior information on this and despite asking a few times we never found out why we couldn't get chips on our card. Overall a great holiday and without doubt I would use CMV again.
