The cabin was comfortable.  Bed was great.  Bathroom a little dated.  Shower difficult to manage water settings.
We had a balcony starboard side and this is essential for us.
Cabin staff were great.

Had a self guided tour around the City of Dunedin, coffee, shopping (green stone) then walk to the top of Port Chalmers, Blueskin Rd to see Scott's Memorial and take in the view

Unfortunately it was a rainy and cool day but that's OK, make the most of it.  Akaroa is a sleepy little French influenced town in a beautiful bay.
With a day to explore, we opted for a stroll around Akaroa and coffee then a ride into Christchurch.  We booked with a shore side operator, Leisure Tours Ltd.
$85 pp full day.   
We lucked out unfortunately.  Despite assuring us of a coach, we got a minivan. (it was in the small print)
The guide/driver was ok.  A crusty old local who loves a dig at the Aussies.  Fair enough.  It's NZ.  Unfortunately, most of the sites on the schedule were not suited to bad weather.   There was no back up plan.  We got dumped off in the rain at a temporary toilet and then left for 40 minutes in a shopping mall.
Spending 6 hours in a minivan was uncomfortable and disappointing.
Bearing in mind Christchurch is a sombre place, still grieving and rebuilding.  The devastation has to be seen to be believed.

Our guide Peter was very knowledgeable and entertaining.
Spent a couple of hours through the streets from downtown, ending up near the Parliament.  Great tour.  Sunken ships.  Monument to the Rugby Gods and a live session of the High Court.

After a quick walk around the downtown and some art deco snaps (little disappointed in the art deco architecture) we hired a couple of pushys and took off around the coast road.  Ah sunshine, fresh air and exercise.  Away from the ship's dining room...
But if you don't like sunshine, just wait ten minutes and you can have cold and biting wind under cloud!  Such is NZ?

I'd been to Tauranga before.  Which was lucky.  I came down with 24 hour bug.  Or was it the salmon mousse?   
Tauranga is beautiful.  Ocean on one side and the Bay on the other.
Don't miss it.

Tauranga

We walked and shopped and walked and drank and walked and ate and drank again.  Beaut weather in the harbour city.
Avoided the ship based excursions as we did not want to spend hours on a bus nor pay double the dough for the tours.
Live music in the middle of the day.
