There is lots to do on the Norwegian Epic and it's a pleasant enough way to travel. I enjoyed the fact that even travelling was part of the experience and the food, whether it was complimentary or not, was superb. The cost of alcohol, however, at $8.90 for a beer (after tax etc.) was excessive I thought. There is a varied amount of entertainment (Burn the Floor, Prescilla Queen of the Desert when I was there) if you like the singing and dancing style of entertainment, and also a comedian and an acrobatic/circus style performance called Cirque Dreams which was very skilful. The ship was laid out in a very easy to navigate fashion, with decks generally being reserved for either guests or entertainment/shops/food. The service was very efficient and friendly and I can only speak highly of the staff who worked in the restaurants, the stewards, and housekeepers etc.
However, NCL have ruined what was an otherwise enjoyable week by still having 2 pending withdrawals against my bank account amounting to almost £600 - even after my bill has been paid. They have caused me to incur bank charges, my debit card was declined until I received my monthly salary, and it was only because I had some euros to change back to sterling that I was able to get into work for the first week back. I had purchased a Cruise Next deposit because I had enjoyed my time so much. Needless to say I'm now asking for it back. Would I use NCL again? The way I'm feeling now, it's doubtful. Update: the hold which NCL had against some money in my bank account was only released on the 7th November - a full two weeks after I got back home!
The cabin was comfortable enough. The bed was comfortable and there was a television showing a combination of news, sport, film and NCL based channels. The Sport 24 channel was most welcome as I was able to watch a live premier league match involving my team! All in all quite small but you don't expect much more for the price and you don't go on holiday to hide away in your room!
The only slight complaint is that I would have liked just a little bit more room in the shower as I could barely move my arms without bashing into the shower screen (maybe sacrifice some storage space?). The steward, Akeisha, was really friendly and helpful.
Cannes is very nice and clean but famously expensive.
At Livorno we travelled to Pisa. To be honest I though Livorno itself was nicer when you take away the obvious attraction of Pisa. In fact, apart from the leaning tower there isn't much else to see in Pisa!
Naples itself is really run down. Apart from that people there were really friendly and happy to assist us with where we were trying to get to - and none of us spoke any Italian. Imagine that situation the other way around! Also went to Herculaneum which is an interesting place and it's well worth seeing either there or Pompeii.
