My parents are in there 70's and they won this cruse through the local casino. My husband and I decided to tag along (in our 40's).
Because of the time of the year (Oct.probably hey casino is giving it away) and the amount of sea days there was't much to do. It was too cold to swim or lay out and some of the sea days were so rough that all of the chairs were tied up so you could't be outside even if you wanted to.
I felt the activities were limited, Trivia, demonstrations, plenty of for fee offers- like wine tasting, bingo, casino. Speaking of the casino- it was very small and SO SMOKEY I could't even tolerate it. Disgraceful for those employees forced to inhale that daily. NO smoke free spot.
The food was awful Buffett- cold, loaded with carbs and salt and just crappy food. Ex. Burgers, hot dogs, sitting out, chili con carne, sauerkraut. Pizza, how do you ruin pizza, it was so thin and fell apart. The food was so salty, it was just gross. There were no trays and by the time you got your food, they your drinks, seat- it was just awful.
The complimentary restaurant (which you paid for in the cruise price) Venetian served the SAME thing for lunch each day, NO variety- we had breakfast in the dining room ONCE the food took an hr and was iced cold. The Irish bar for example one night had Prime rib, we waited an hr and all of the food came out at once, the apps, salads, soups, main food. The orders were all wrong and iced cold. (Party of 4) The for fee restaurants were good but if you don't book your reservations WAY before you board you'll be eating at 9pm We did enjoy Bamboo but you need a reservation even though its a free restaurant, and lets face it you paid for the cruise so nothing is really free.
Another tip- our room (10626) only had 2 outlets, one in the bathroom and one in the cabin near the vanity. If you can bring a triple tap or outlet expander incase you need to charge multiple devices
Also if you like coffee bring a large cup, the cups are so small and by the time you get seated its gone.
We had the drink package, the drinks were good. If you tip you get faster/better service
The ship was majority of older clients, lots of scooters, walkers and wheelchairs, some families. Staff was overall very nice, only encountered 2 rude staff members.
Another example we cruised to Bermuda, there was a talk before we docked recommending places to go. They mentioned there was a city bus to the beach for $5.00 what they didn't mention was this bus dropped you at the top of a hill, for $2.00 more the taxi takes you right to the beach. Thats pretty important especially considering the age of the cruisers. Another tid bid NOT mentioned there is a FREE trolley in the royal navy dockyard that brings you to the clock tower mall and all of the other spots where the ship is docked. That was pretty important considering the age of passengers.
Overall any vacation is a good vacation and we enjoyed the time with my parents and each other. I would not recommend this cruise.
not the best layout, super awkward bathroom
