My husband and I have not sailed Carnival for about 12 years. While doing some research for a group cruise we came upon the Carnival Sunshine out of NYC to Canada for 5 days at an incredible low price. Upon checking the past reviews on the Sunshine we had read that the dining areas had limited seating, the ship was showing her age, the cabins were small and there were odors on several decks. With the price being so great and the ability of driving to the ship by motor coach rather flying, we decided to take a chance on her.

We arrived to the port at 11:30 am, the porters came directly to the bus and took our luggage and we continued into the terminal where we were given a customs form that needed filled out before we could go any further, so be sure to have a pen. We were on board by 12:15 and proceeded directly to our cabin and dropped off our carry on. We had an inside cabin on deck 2 which we found to be very spacious and clean. We have been on 24 cruises and we were shocked to see the size of the shower, which spanned from wall to wall of the bathroom. It was great. The Muster Drill is the only disappointment that we experienced on this ship. It was very unorganized and way too long with us standing for an hour on the outside deck.

There were many food venues open for us to choose from, such as Guys Burger Joint, Blue lguana Grill, the Buffet and the Havana Bar. As far as the problem with seating that we read about, we had none of that the entire time on board. Usually someone is leaving or there is plenty of room back in the Havana Bar that you can sit at. We had 6 pm early seating at the restaurant and all meals were delicious. Service was excellent. Guys Burger Joint is the best burger at sea. Blue lguana made your taco and burrito shells in front of you and they were delicious. We at the Fahrenheit 555 Steak House which was Excellent. The 18 oz. Cowboy Ribeye was so delicious. The price of $35.00 included the tip as well. We also ate at Ji Ji Asian Kitchen which served family style for the price of $15.00 which was fantastic and a great bargain with the tip included as well.

Port Reviews

Saint John (New Brunswick)

The port was very easy to walk around the town. There was shopping close by the ship.

Halifax

Peggy's Cove was a must see.
